Jersey Amateur Swimming Association

Jeux des Iles Mallorca 2009

The girls' team consisting of Natasha Stuttard, Becky Lowe and Leila Osman came 8th out of 14 in Mallorca at Les Jeux des Iles with Natasha gaining a bronze medal in the 200 Individual Medley in a time of 2.32.14.  Jersey was 2 points behind Azores and with the bigger teams of Sardinia, Sicily, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Madeira and Mallorca having more swimmers, our girls did well.

The pool was 25 metres with a retractable roof which was a new experience for the girls who were effectively racing in an open pool.  The warm up was interesting with  the swimmers from the other islands placing themselves in whatever lane was available and then wanting to change the direction of the swimming!  But Jersey and the Isle of Wight stood their ground and the girls learnt that they had to fight for their own space.

Mixing with other nationalities and cultures is part of the experience of Jeux des Iles and all our athletes gain from this opportunity to participate and represent their island.

Well done girls.  You were very good ambassadors for your clubs, JASA and Jersey.
